Windows 8 and 8.1 Power Options

Have you ever wondered how many different ways there are to interact with the power options for your Windows 8 or 8.1 device? Ok maybe not but here is a list of the different places you can go to interact with the power options available to you.

  1. User Details Start Screen (Windows 8.1 there is an additional power icon on the start screen next to the User Details)
  2. CTRL+ALT+DELETE Screen
  3. Shut Down Windows Dialog Box (From the Desktop press ALT+F4)
  4. Power Menu under the Settings Charm
  5. Sign in Screen
  6. Task Manager
  7. Power Users Tasks Menu in Windows 8.1 (Right click on the start menu from the desktop)

If you don’t see the option for Sleep or Hibernate follow these steps:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Select Power Options
  3. Click “Choose what the power buttons do”
  4. Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”
  5. Accept UAC prompt if prompted
  6. Scroll down to the bottom and look for Shutdown Settings
  7. Check the Sleep and/or Hibernate option to enable these features
