I ran into an error, right at the end of the installer, several times over the last few weeks where I would try to upgrade a user’s Notes client from 9.0.1 to 9.0.1FP1. I attended an Open Mic webcast the other day (which I highly recommend anyone attend these – they are very informative) and they provided us with a technote found here on one issue they have seen. I ended up having to use the Nice tool to completely remove the Notes 9.0.1 client and then I re-installed it as an Administrator. According to this technote, if you upgrade Notes 9.0.1 to FP1 as an Administrator account the issue will not occur. I have yet to test this.
Attempts to upgrade to Notes 9.0.1 Fix Pack 1 fail while renaming JVM directory
Attempts to install Notes 9.0.1 Fix Pack 1 fail during the renaming of the JVM directory. The install/upgrade log shows the following errors:
"Installation success or error status: 1603"
"ERROR: Failed to rename directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Lotus\Notes\jvm to C:\Program Files (x86)\Lotus\Notes\jvm_old:32"
This issue has been encountered during upgrades starting from 8.5.x to 9.0.1 to Fix Pack 1 and also with upgrades from clean installations of 9.0.1 to Fix Pack 1. The issue is not specific to any particular deployment method (e.g., Smart Upgrade, SCCM, etc).
